As someone who is moderately autistic and highly introverted, I have been accused of being a psychopath several times. I am deeply sensitive and empathetic, but have never felt comfortable expressing much emotion to people I do not know. Combined with my eccentricity and socio-political contrarianism, this has often led to me being boxed as the outcast, the mad guy, the freak, etc.

I thought it was the other way around, that psychopaths was born that way (without empathy) and sociopaths was "made" by a lacking untrustworthy unsafe abusive upbringing? πŸ€”

This my now Exiting husband. Two looney parents that abused him & his siblings and he was spoiled. He is EVERY behavior described. Cruel to animals, molested his younger sister, a kleptomaniac, he HAS tried to kill me- From starting a fight & hiding in the garage with a gun, to contaminate my food with nut powder because I’m anaphylactic allergic. I left him & he stalked me. Flew to my new state & tried to kill me there. Yet He STILL has his job for the NAVY / DOD -on North Island - he’s a Materials Engineer with a high security clearance & THE NAVY protects him

Very informative. The latest edition of the DSM describe the symptoms and the variety of traits, such psychopathy with religious beliefs and fanaticism.

Now I'm more confused than ever about the difference between psychopath and sociopath. I was always told one was nature and one was nurture.

Are there any good, readable, books on how difficult times program people to have dark personality traits as a survival mechanism?

I think it's both nature & nurture. I will also say that certain cultures seem to create a high number of psychopaths which to me proves that nurture plays a big part.

Heaps of people have had traumatic or abusive childhoods, and they don't become psychopaths. Psychopaths are mostly born this way, not made.

Here it says that psychopaths struggle in society. Long term relationships, work etc. Yet I've also heard that psychopaths actually do very well in society as they are able to blend, manipulate mimic and generally have a good sense of control over their emotions very well. So which is it? πŸ˜…

My ex wife who went to get a BPD diagnosis but told the PHD she was single so they wouldn’t want to ask me about her traits because she actually has ASPD. With a psychopath mother and sister who have all spent their lives trying to manipulate people and committing endless crimes.
