There is something that my dad said at my graduation that stuck with me. He realized when I was little, as he was watching me run around the house, that children are not swords that you hold onto, but they are like arrows that you eventually let go. And once that arrow hits it's target, they will transform it.
To this day, that still makes me cry. I love my dad.

"The stone cannot know why the chisel cleaves it; the iron cannot know why the fire scorches it. When thy life is cleft and scorched,
when death and despair leap at thee, beat not thy breast and curse thy evil fate, but thank The Builder for the trials that shape thee."
- The Hammer Book of Tenets

Wow! What an analogy. This is what I could infer - putting yourself in someone else's hand is to seek mentorship which is especially needed when you are in the process of learning. That mentor might even show you some tough love, and put you through a lot of hardwork but that's just to help you hone yourself.

I would like to add another end to this short amazing story; once in the world, the pencil one day got broken in two parts. Despite the pain, the pencil stood firm, because the inside was still ok to write. So the pencil rolled its two pieces next to the sharpener and waited, and it wasnât long, that the man took each piece and sharpened them again and again, finer and finer, until from one pencil only, two new ones were formed. And two men, not only one, could write their story.
