Just watched a documentary on Annie Lennox and how she along with Dave Stewart struggled for years for success. She was banned from MTV and ridiculed for her short hair, accused of being a cross dresser, etc. A real story of perseverance. What an artist and just listen to those pipes. A gift for us. Thanks Annie and Dave.

I had an obsessed delusional relationship with a woman in a drug treatment center. She was physically abused by an ex before entering the center, addicted to fentanyl and meth. She was smart and had a great career before getting with him, but lost it all. I had owned a restaurant, and I felt she was my soulmate. I scared her away, and all because I took her kindness too far. I ruined something that was really special, all because of early feelings in recovery, as well as a manic episode. I'm writing a book on my experiences, and I hope to one day publish it so people can see addicts are everyday people. Some of us have it harder than others.

This music video demonstrates the power of nuance and intimacyâAnnie does relatively little yet remains so compelling to watch. Particularly at a time when some music videos were becoming massive productions worth millions of dollars with extensive choreography, expensive sets and wardrobes, and more. How much this video conveys with so little!
And then there's the song itself, a breath of fresh air after the Eurythmics yearsâwhen we were able to see more of the person behind the performance...

This song is about a crumbling relationship and how you deal with changes in your life, but it's so much more than that, IMO. Beyond the sad melody and aching vocals, Annie talks covers the 5 stages of grief: denial ("Some things are better left unsaid"), anger ("Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut"), bargaining ("Let's go down to the water's edge And we can cast away those doubts), depression ("This is the book I never read, These are the words I never said"), acceptance ("You don't know what I feel"), to culminate with a single word in the chorus: "Why?". If this isn't a masterpiece to you, then tell me what is.
