This song reminds me of when I was a young man and I had just gotten my driving license and enjoyed driving with this music in the car. now I'm 37 and can't drive, I have a tumor and epilepsy. Sometimes life is a shame. But life is also a joy to be able to continue enjoying this music.

Just watched a documentary on Annie Lennox and how she along with Dave Stewart struggled for years for success. She was banned from MTV and ridiculed for her short hair, accused of being a cross dresser, etc. A real story of perseverance. What an artist and just listen to those pipes. A gift for us. This song is about a crumbling relationship and how you deal with changes in your life, but it's just much more than that, IMO. Beyond the sad melody and aching vocals, Annie talks covers the 5 stages of grief: denial ("Some things are better left unsaid"), anger ("Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut"), bargaining ("Let's go down to the water's edge And we can cast away those doubts), depression ("This is the book I never read, These are the words I never said"), acceptance ("You don't know what I feel"), to culminate with a single word in the chorus: "Why?". If this isn't a masterpiece to you, then tell me what is.
