reading her book and the way she describes her sister's circumstances, it does sound like the family had a large part to play in kristina's death. like anna says, the parents were very strict asian "tiger" parents and they didn't sound like they supported the younger sister when she was bullied and then expelled (just for defending herself from the bullies). they banned her from attending a sleepover too. she even writes in her book that kristina left a suicide note for the family which was (by her father's account) not kind. so it sounds like the little sister was not getting a lot of love and support at home. poor girl. even the book "letters to my little sister" was in very poor taste - it's basically just a memoir of anna akana's career and success, with very little of it having to do with her sister. even the cover of the book isn't a picture of her and her sister - it's literally just anna smiling into the camera. can you imagine? writing a book about yourself and passing it off as a heartfelt message to your sister who committed suicide? whenever the people closest to a suicide say some bullshit like "their suicide will always remain a mystery to me", it's always an indication that they weren't paying attention to that person to begin with. as a suicide survivor, i hate that cop out that some loved ones use - "i don't understand why they did it!". Yeah, asshole, you don't understand because you didn't see the signs that were right in front of your face the whole time. You were oblivious to the suffering of your "loved one" and you weren't there for them when they needed you. Instead of saying "their suicide is a mystery to me", just take some responsibility and say "I failed them". It's more respectful.

As a mental health social woker, suicide cases have spiked with the advent of social media. To many young people spend to much time online which leads to depression, anxiety and worse. If you really want to help yourself, read a book, paint a picture, volunteer your time with those less fortunate, get a pet, walk in a park. Just don't spend hours clicking on fb , Instagram, tiktok, and the rest.

I deduced from all the things I accomplished the two years I made my YouTube account Mystic7 which was really a method to evaluate what was going on in my life that I was off medicine for those two years and whatever condition I may have had good or bad could not be that serious that I would need hospitalization since my performance in my interactive gameplay recordings like wheel of fortune went really well at my level

Anna Akana is such an inspiration to me. She’s saved me many times with her vulnerability on youtube.
