I would happily watch an entire series of specifically this: seeing a producer and an instrumentalist for an artist discuss the artists songs. This is a really great episode among great episodes.

She's overexposed in a way that I'm sure Leslie Feist can relate to, but a conversation like this brings you back to what makes her such an exceptional writer. And Tony is right - the lyric drives the train. She's so, so skilled in blending the conversational with the poetic.

She’ll definitely be known as one of the best singer songwriters of this generation. Punisher will be a classic iconic album for sure

The best comment I've seen about Pheobe is from a video here on YouTube: "She is like if the Moon was a person." I always felt that went so well with her music. It is ethereal usually.

21:52 "That's good construction, you presage a line that is gonna take a larger role later". Like when the 'DVD Menu' melody came back in the breakdown of 'I Know the End' and hit me like ton of bricks.

Tony Berg referencing J Dilla. What a magnificent universe we observers get to inhabit.

This episde is special, there's something about having people involved with the track that just brings such an extra dimension to the breakdown of the songwriting. More episodes like this please!

Phoebe Bridgers is a hard hitting enough songwriter by herself that I'd love her music even without the clever production. BUT, learning these extra steps is so cool on top of all that, too!

This has been the best episode by far, having a producer and instrumentalist directly involved with the music being featured combined with loads of discussion about how the production and songwriting intersect was just wonderful

Punisher might become a record as iconic and cherished as Joni Mitchell's Blue. It is phenomenal. It gives me the chills and nearly makes me cry. Her lyrics are fascinating although I don't ever really know what she is talking about but it hits hard and deep nevertheless. Already the first few lines of the album: "Someday, I'm gonna live In your house up on the hill And when your skinhead neighbor goes missing I'll plant a garden in the yard" WTF??? I have no clue but its awesome.

10? years ago my in-laws hosted a small stage at their studio for a little annual music festival in Pasadena. My girlfriend (now wife) was in charge of booking bands. If I remember correctly, she knew Phoebe from school and booked her for the show. Her set was amazing and her performance really stood out. I think everyone knew it was something special. It's awesome to see how successful she is now.

I tend to stay out the comments but we need an episode on Hiatus Kaiyote. Its not often a band comes along and it changes how other bands decide to “change their sonic aesthetic” to “feel like” said band. I can’t count how many times ive heard in the last 6 years someone say “oh they sound like…that riff is like…that harmony is very…etc.. hiatus kaiyote-ish”. Anyways, do Hiatus damit!!!!!!!! :)

You can do an entire series on Phoebe´s music and I´ll watch it 20 times! I can´t remember the last time it happened to me that I connected so deeply with an artist.
