Healthcare Abroad: My husband got a stomach bug in Mexico City, he was down for a couple of days. We went to the Farmacia and asked to see the doctor. The lady at the pharmacy took us next door to the medico. We filled out a short paper, waited a few minutes, and went to see the medico. He asked about symptoms, gave my husband a physical exam and gave us prescriptions for antibiotics, probiotics and pain killers. We went back to the pharmacy,they pulled the order together, it cost $28 total and took about 30 minutes. The medico was free, but I gave him 20 pesos just because. Urgent care in the US is $150 just to be seen.

Medical tourism is seriously underrated. Not only do you get affordable, high quality care, you get to travel to a great destination!

I got sick on a trip in Kenya. Thankfully, I know what meds work for me. My friends took me to a pharmacy and after talking with the pharmacist, who was making sure I understood that I must take the entire prescription, got a Z-pac for $2. No doctor needed. $2!!!

I had the exact same thoughts as Carrie during COVID. You think "it will be there" - then it wasn't. Then all of a sudden I'm almost 50 and the sense of urgency came in hot. I was in Mexico at the time, but I never intended to be there for a continuous 4 years. So when things got back to normal, I started to plan for Europe. Sold everything (again) , packed up me and the cat...now here I am. On the French Riviera at the moment .
