Our attempts to make scientific and technological advances often leave us confronting the harm they can do. Genetically modified food can make food more accessible, but it threatens economies and environments in places like the Congo. Lab-grown meat reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases but puts farmers out of business.

These are the unintended consequences of playing God.

I think the idea of “playing God” isn’t even comprehensible to us. At the end of the day; We manipulate already existing matter and energy. We fundamentally cannot create new energy from ourselves, because it would contradict the first law of thermodynamics.

This was excellent! I have a brilliant Chinese National student living with me. In order to develop critical thinking skills, I've worked with him to do a quick mental exercise: Whenever he hears or reads about an issue, he thinks up 3 pros and 3 cons. Absolutely nothing is black and white. He's gotten really good at perceiving nuance and seems amazed other people don't.

I really like how in all of his videos, he presents both the positive and negative attributes for whatever the video is about. It's purely informative and unbiased.

I am always genuinely confused how we continuously create advancments and have people complain, and yet at no point do we ever learn that things get better over time, and yet there is always someone who allows their fear of change to hold us back.

"Technology achieves what gods can only dream to be". Perfectly compliments Clarkes law of "any sufficiently advanced technology can be indistinguishable from magic"

It sucks that there are negative connotations to some very good things that make others lives so much better

It shouldn't be something to fight against, I mean exploring ways to better the world, it's in human nature to do so, I think we are so concerned about not changing nature that we are loosing our own nature. We should preserve that as well. The fear of what may come should not stop us from exploring possibilities of what could be 😢

Most of this video is just supporting free healthcare and an univeral income. NASA only uses half a cent per person per year, and have made technology like the phone camera or advancements in computers. They are part of the reason we know as much about climate change as we do. The problem lies more in "Humans dont really need to work anymore" rather than "This could put people out of their jobs". There are reasons companies now use the four day work week and lowered the working hours. The only problem is profit seeking companies that would rather watch the world burn before they loose a percent of profit.

Aperture you’re one day late for this video, I literally had a school assignment yesterday about ‘CRISPR’, this video would’ve been amazing info for that assignment 😂

I love the fact that my freezer (solar powered) is full of chicken meat I raised organically. He is right about the lost connection with food. I don't crave any food unless I grew it or someone like me did. Locally. I also have the most delicious deer meat. When I heard about an egg shortage, I was feeling bad for those who have not figured out what TRUE wealth is. I get 14 eggs a day. My land. I love that I can say that.

Interesting point about the pump that was taken out ; the townsfolk had the pump put back because they didn't like the extra effort they had to go through to get water. The cholera outbreak came back

The main issue with GMO crops is they have patents that impede farmers to reuse the same crops as they usually do Not to mention the extreme damage it causes to the soil because it's deleted of nutrients after the recollection making it unusable for a new harvest
