In German we have those so called "Modalpartikeln" which are these small words you will hear all the time when we talk. But what do they actually mean?
They can change the meaning of the entire sentence and express feelings, emphasize intentions, show approval or disapproval and reinforce or weaken you statements.
So you can see they are quite versatile and unfortunately also usually have more than just 1 meaning. Since most other languages do not have "Modalpartikeln" they are also quite difficult and sometimes even impossible to translate.
In this video you can learn about the Top 10 German Modalpartikeln. How and when they can be used along with lots of example sentences.
Keep in mind that you do need to be able to use them until B2/C1 level. But understanding their meanings will help you a lot in improving your German listening skills. And if you can include them in your talking, you will definitely sound more German! 😊💪💪

Just watched this for the second time. Another good one is 'nur' for demanding an answer to a question or that something be done. "Was ist nur los?" - "What is going on here? (I must know.)"

There's a substitute for „mal” in Urdu and many other languages spoken in the Subcontinent. The word is "ذرا - zarra", which can translate to English "a little", but it's complicated like "mal". While it can be used in sentences like "turn down the music a little", other times it just doesn't follow the "a little " logic, and sounds more like "mal" in essence. Examples: Zarra ye dyna (give me that): if we translate it to "a little" of English here, the sentence would sound awkward "give this a little", but if we translate it to German , it would convey the meaning properly "Gib mir mal das". I am not a linguist, but I think it's a similar expression, that is found both in German and these Asian languages.

Lord knows I needed this video more than ever, lol. I have an online friend of mine who lives in southern Germany, and sometimes he messages me in English, and sometimes he messages me in German. Ive been studying about 2 years now. I can sorta get the gist of what he says in German, for the most part. Except for when he uses these exact words being shown here. Once again, you never fail to hit the bullseye 😎
