Does money make you happy? No… but being broke makes me stressed and depressed

Oh God I hate this question "does money really make you happy?". Idolizing anything will not make you happy. But being depressed with cash is better than being depressed without cash.

Everyone knows that money doesn't buy happiness, yet everyone prefers to check it for themselves.

I’ve spent time around people who are dying. The only thing they care about are their relationships past and present. A lot of very old trauma related to loved ones seems to come up. Resolve your issues while you have the energy or you will just lay there helplesslessy reliving them in your final days. Fix what you can let go of what you can’t. Be true and love who you can, being controlling only works when you’re strong, when you are feeble, it’s payback time, so be kind to your children and your spouse. Money is important because it affects quality of care and it also keeps family members around, although that can be a double edged sword. Accomplishments actually don’t seem to matter at all. What matters is inner peace. When you are young, you can constantly distract yourself with activity, but the older you get, the more time you have to sit still or lay still with nothing but your thoughts, so learn to do that while you are still young and have some neuroplasticity.

I like what Alex Hormozi noted about happiness, it’s like sleeping so well that you’ll never need to sleep again, or eating so well that you never need to eat again. Happiness is something that needs to be renewed everyday, regardless of how rich you are.

The short answer is yes, but not because you can buy whatever toy you want or experience pleasurable things over and over again but because it helps you avoid of life's problems i.e. joblessness, homelessness, poverty in general which are all huge stress issues in people's lives.

Happiness comes from reaching a new peak, at witch point you will be able to finally: "Pay that bill", "Buy that car", or "Take that vacation". But once you do that and you establish a new baseline, you are right back to wanting to achieve your next goal.

23:12 “You’re what? 23?” Chris: “I’m 35” As a fellow 35 year old who nobody can tell what age I am, I felt that.

Let me pause and say this is literally the only podcast content where I’ll stop listening on a normal audio format and finally on video. Great work team. That’s our goal

47:05 That part about regretting all the fear that you wouldn't get to the place you were going anyway was powerful. Great podcast as always.

It doesn’t make you happy. It just offers the freedom to find what will.

Something I heard that I wished I learned sooner is that new endeavors have a honeymoon phase - and it's totally normal. If you know to expect it, you know when it's happening and just move through it... but learn how to recognize and ride out that honeymoon phase as long as possible in the future. Strong points made in this discussion. Well done, guys.

I just don't get Rogan but really enjoy Chris most of the time. This episode for me was more about what Chris revealed about himself than what Noah said. I wouldn't want to be Chris but I do admire the ability to talk with so many interesting people.

People always overcomplicate this shit. Having tons of money wont mean anything if you have no family or friends or bad health etc etc etc. You need enough money so that you can take care of your needs and some of your realistic wants. Beyond that, other things beyond money will determine the quality of your life.

1:32:03 "Some people believe that there is a secret doorway in-between them and being their own boss, in-between them and starting their own business. There's nothing." This really annoys me. Yes, there is. It's called finding customers. If you don't have customers then you don't have a business. If you don't have customers then you don't have an income. That is what makes it hard. And if you're an introvert who absolutely despises going out and talking to people all the time to try to convince them to buy whatever it is that you're selling, then that doorway is going to be pretty damn hard to open. The good thing about a regular job is you don't have to worry about all that bullshit. The sales and marketing folks handle that while you can just focus on your work. It's called the division of labor.

Most people don't want to be entrepreneurs or rich. Most people just want to leave their dead end, $15 an hour jobs. Thats enough.
