Iâve always wondered if when sirens are finished drowning people and stuff, theyâre all like, âOkay everyfish, letâs talk about your performance today. Serena, you were supposed to sing an A natural, not an A flat! Shelly, you sang an entire octave to low. An entire OCTAVE! Like, who even does that?!â

Hear my voice beneath the sea
Sleeping now so peacefully
At the bottom of the sea
Sleep for all eternity
(Nah oh nah oh nah nah oh nah oh oh oh oh oh?????????)
Sailors live so restlessly
Come with me, sleep peacefully
Listen to this sirens' song
Worry not for nothing's wrong
(I give up)
Let my voice lead you this way
I will not lead you astray
Trust me as we reach the side
Jumping out where men have died
(u w0t)
Hear my voice beneath the sea
Sleeping now so peacefully
At the bottom of the sea
Sleep for all eternity
Let the ocean fill your lungs
Struggle not, soon peace will come
Taking in your final breath
Sink down to the ocean's depths
I wish I could always be
In the ocean's arms, you see
He who'd wanted nothing more
Sleeps now at the ocean's floor
Ocean was your lover's name
You had left her all the same
Now you'll always be together
Sirens are so very clever
Hear my voice beneath the sea
Sleeping now so peacefully
At the bottom of the sea
Sleep for all eternity
Of course this is my own interpretation, so it's not law

My own personal take on the siren or mermaid thing is the intent in their songs. Mermaids are creatures of the ocean that would like to live in peace in their home. Mermaids sing to frighten sailors, so they'll sail as far as away as possible believing them to be Sirens. Sirens are both of the sea and not. They spend their time near jagged rocks and hard to navigate waters, so that when they sing to lure sailors out to them, the sailors crash sinking to the bottom of the sea. Sirens want sailors to never leave the sea while Mermaids want them to leave forever. This is why they've evolved to look the same (like animals that camouflage as deadly animals). Both entities do not care where sailors truly end up as long as their boats are off the ocean top causing pollution and the like. I see them as two sides of the same coin both fighting to protect their home (the ocean) from invaders (sailors), but employing very different means to achieve this result.
It's really just a theory/headcanon that we can use to distinguish the two. BTW you have a beautiful voice, and I remember hearing this a while ago and had to look it up so I could hear it again.

I wanted to share a fun fact.
The Sirens is the Greek myths, are nature spirits cursed by Demeter for not intervening when Persephone was captured. I can never find a for sure answer one which spirits they are. They were either Nymphs, Naiads, Nereids, or Oceanids. And they arenât pretty mermaids like they are portrayed in modern culture either. They were pictured like this:
âSirens were believed to combine women and birds in various ways. In early Greek art, Sirens were represented as birds with large women's heads, bird feathers and scaly feet. Later, they were represented as female figures with the legs of birds, with or without wings, playing a variety of musical instruments, especially harps and lyres. The tenth-century Byzantine encyclopedia Suda says that from their chests up, Sirens had the form of sparrows, and below they were women or, alternatively, that they were little birds with women's faces. Birds were chosen because of their beautiful voices. Later Sirens were sometimes depicted as beautiful women, whose bodies, not only their voices, are seductive.â -Wikipedia
Hera persuaded the sirens to enter a singing contest against the Nine Muses. The Muses won and plucked out all of their feathers, and then made crowns from them. After losing the competition they turned white and fell into the sea in Aptera, and formed the islands in the bay.

O broken hearted one, your soul has grown weary...
Have you turned to the rippling tides to engulf your lonely tears?
May the waves embrace you, lull you softly to sleep
Ease away all the hurt and pain
That youâve carried through the years
But if given the chance, would you forget the past?
You and I can start all over
We can love again, my dear...
