The syncopation is so strong here, I'm playing back these parts in my head and I get a headache just trying to think of playing just Thom's part over all these crazy different rhythms. A true masterpiece of composition; all the rhythms are totally different, but you would never know because they blend so, so well together. As Thom said, there's just this hidden complexity to it that absolutely makes it one of the coolest things they've ever done.
Edit: reminds me of minimalism, steve reich and such

3:33 I love Thom's smile in that moment, is such a genuine expression of pure joy!

Ed O'Brien's guitar coming in at about 3:50 to the end seems minimal yet is amazingly effective and haunting.

That guitar swell from 3:50 is a brilliant addition to the album version

When I'm at the pearly gates
This'll be on my videotape, my videotape
When Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me
This is one for the good days
And I have it all here in red, blue, green, in red, blue, green
You are my center when I spin away
Out of control on videotape
On videotape, on videotape, on videotape
On videotape, on videotape, on videotape...
[Verse 2]
This is my way of saying goodbye
Because I can't do it face to face
So I'm talking to you before-
No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen

I know its stereotypical to be 'that depressed fan' but I'm saying this from love, I've grown up on Radiohead and had brilliant experiences with them, though I listened to in rainbows on repeat when my friend died of an early heart attack and this track haunts and comforts me in equal measures as we listened to them together - Thoms voice is so moving thank you x

There's a beat track that is far more audible than the studio version. The weird timing of that beat is really what makes it so captivating and feeling less repetitive. I wonder why they muffled the strange time signature from the studio version? Imo, it's the main feature to videotape. This version is magical.

I know this is a weird place to share this, but I thought y'all might enjoy reading about a strange story I have involving this song!! So, one time I was listening to In Rainbows in bed with a pair of headphones, and I fell asleep right around the time Jigsaw Falling Into Place came on. But then when Videotape started playing, I had this really bizarre dream and I'm gonna try to describe it. The scene was like... the rapture or "the day of reckoning" or something like that. Nothing specifically told me this, but I just knew in my heart that this was it. This was the apocalypse. The big finale of everything. I remember I was in the center of this big city, it kinda reminded me of Times Square in New York, but not. And all these people were panicking and running past me as I was just standing there... looking up at the ashy black sky with this sense of doom and awe and just... accepting my fate. The sky kinda looked like Mordor. I don't remember what EXACTLY I saw in sky, but I remember there was this massive fiery red symbol painted across the sky that stretched from one end of the horizon to the other. It kinda looked like the symbol from the album cover of 2112 by Rush (even though I'm not a big Rush fan). I remember I had this distinct sense of dread... but also of peace. I'm not exactly sure if I was one of the condemned or one of the chosen in this scenario, but I'm not sure I wanna know LOL. I can't recall how the dream ended either, all I can recall is that one specific scene I described and the fact that I woke up once the song ended. One of the weirdest damn dreams I ever had, and I learned my lesson that maybe 3 AM in bed ISN'T the best time to listen to In Rainbows LOL... or maybe it IS the best time, depending on who you ask. ;))
