Has nothing to do with what she’s experienced or who adopted her. She could always choose to shed her costume if she had wanted to. The really sad part of BSM's role on Sesame Street was in her first appearance - "Was it a real story about Indians or was it a fairy tale?...I'm real" How ironic in hindsight.

Wise words. Just some thoughts tho... Being adopted does not make you indigenous and she should have respected the honor of being adopted by being honest and not base it on a lie. Would she have been adopted if they knew the extent of the lies especially in the sixties when indigenous people were finally standing up to the lies of their rights and treatment. Also, a lie by omission is not the same as deliberate outright lies.

You can support any cause you want but support has far more credibility if you refrain from telling absolute lies about your background. Capitalising on pretending to be a member of the group you are supporting is divisive and shows a complete lack of moral fibre and self-respect, not to mention in this instance, the disrespect shown to Saint Marie's blood family.

You have an unusual, broad and forgiving viewpoint of the expose of the Pretendian Buffy Saint Marie. One cannot argue with the Fifth Estate investigation findings. I struggle to see what difficulties or struggles and discrimination Buffy experienced. None of the claims were made when she was on the rise of her career, rather the Indigenous claims were made AFTER she was already a music star.

You're missing the point. As a Navajo, I don't care that non-Natives are "adopted" by Native groups or "create" their own "tribes;" I care that this Italian lady downright lied about her identity. She lied, manipulated and benefitted from those lies and manipulations.
