Looks like she was fired. Her indigenous roots must have been the sole reason why she qualified for her position.. LOL. Its getting ridiculous in Canada, hiring is based on optics now not skills sets and real qualifications. What could possibly go wrong???

I'm a registered tribal member. I was raised by my Ojibwe grandfather away from the reservation. I'm overwhelmingly white and have low quantum, but I was raised with indigenous culture/values. I still have relatives that live near the reservation. I'm not as well versed on my culture as I could be. I didn't grow up on the reservation and I would certainly never pass as something other than white. But what I did grow up with culture wise, is still important to me. I've always been self concious about my looks and felt that it made me invalid. This woman is far more indigenous looking than me yet doesn't have any percent of Indigenous blood. I think this is an important lesson on how physical phenotype looks shouldn't invalidate somebody's identity. You can look black, white, asian, indigenous, ect and yet that doesn't define what if you are or aren't Indigenous.

She’s just living “her truth”…. I see a lot of transracial bigots in the comment section. She identifies as an indigenous woman and her pronouns are morning/star/bear…. This would make for an awesome comedy sketch if it wasn’t real life already.

Serious question: how diluted does the blood line have to get before you stop being "indigenous" or some other race???

One of my old bosses was a fraud. She was an illegal immigrant who never went to school and faked her entire upbringing and educational background to get a job that required a high school degree. She also lived illegally in a random woman's home who was elderly and she took advantage of her but all that was found out AFTER she retired. Too many frauds out there

I hope she can sue for wrongful dismissal. We shouldn’t be discriminating on the basis of ethnicity, gender or other.

PS. before you say you dont know why she would do it, besides the leg up in her career, ask if she got any financing from them.

What do you mean “faking” her identity? What can’t that be her identity? How do we flip flip between subjective and objective realities?

This is the effect of competitive funding opportunities that pervade the academic institutions. It is shameful to say the least.

And this will change anything? She will just say that she identifies as indigenous. Or she can just say she 0.03% indigenous. Win!
