The R46 is the oldest NYC subway car (not counting the R44's on the Staten Island Railway). They've been referred to as clunkers (which really pissed me off). With that said, the R46 is the GOAT. It may not have the bells and whistles of the R211, but it has a smooth ride, plenty of seats, an aesthetically pleasing interior, and the coolest acceleration noise.
All things come to an end. The R46s will eventually be scrapped. That will really be depressing. Until then, I'm riding the R46 as much as I can. Well after the R46 is gone, the memories will remain.
