As someone who grew up very uncomfy with being a DD by 13 who'd stack 2 sports bras daily for school, I'm very grateful for the invention of sports bras before I finally got a binder. But I do wonder, what was the progression of the history of binders used for explicitly breast reduction?
In my research at the time and through popular media depictions (that weren't always the safest) the Japanese Sarashi bands were the earliest item I could find used for a similar purpose to compress the breasts for support during high activity, or even act as a supportive garment for pregnancy

I found the full-length video this was clipped from to be quite interesting. I guess the closest analog to bows in modern underwear typically marketed to men would be a drawstring. If I were handier, I might consider sewing some lace onto the drawstring (alas, I am not that handy).
