I agree with you on some points, but I think in general, her music matured. You can tell she has experienced a lot more since the release of Lush, and honestly I think we all have as well, and I think that is reflected well on the album. Maybe that’s why I like it so much. I like the growth in the sound. It is absolutely distinct from the old sound, but cool and unique in a new way (the bass line on Ben Franklin is amazing, but nothing like the old sound). I agree with you on some of the live stuff being disjointed, but there are only a few to choose from since this is so new and the surgery. The live Madonna is next level though!
I would argue that this is a stronger breakup album than Lush was as well. Just a hot take.)
I like your take on some things, but disagree just a bit on others :)

Totally agree with you, I've just came from a Snail Mail rabbit hole (found out about this video through a post on reddit) and I can really understand what you're saying.
Now, more than ever, I just wish her a speedy recovery so that she can get back out there and figure it out the live stuff with her bandmates, I wholeheartedly believe that her third album will be a special moment in music, at least for me.
Great video, btw!

I saw a string of video uploads from a show Snail Mail did quite recently at King's Theatre in Brooklyn. They did the Valentine songs, and I actually really did enjoy the performances I saw (aside from the loud crowd next to the person filming.) Maybe it's just because I love the album, but something about this set clicked, where other Valentine song lives didn't for me.

Valentine grew on me, and now I love it. The Snail Mail sound we initially fell in love with was driven by a Jaguar often in open D tuning which leads to a very specific sound (I see your gorgeous seafoam green, mine is candy apple red like Lindseys) you pick up a different guitar and add some synths and all of a sudden your sound is dramatically different
I commend Lindsey for changing. Way too many bands go from good debut to a 2nd album that's basically a clone.

Totally agree with you, Valentine does seem like less of jam sesh and more intricately composed but doesn't matter cause the record is amazing
