Home Video is a great album, but honestly you could pick Home Video, Historian, or No Burden for a first album to listen to and I'm sure you'd love it. Therapy may be temporary but Lucy Dacus is forever.
For Julien Baker, I would recommend Little Oblivions over her other two for a first album, the sound is much more accessible.

Boygenius is just so good. They truly are a tripple threat with the offensive sound, peak story telling and angelic vocals. I was recently at their concert and there were 50 year old rock dudes standing next to teenage girls, all feeling their music. You can just feel how much they love their craft!

No but the rest is such a great title. With the double meaning of the rest songs that weren't ready when the record came out and the rest like a break/pause? It fits so well that the record is an exciting summer record and the rest is more calmer and nostalgic - like perfect for autumn. And the both covers: they could be taken on the same day but capsulate the different moods perfectly.

btw, just to pick up on your thoughts regarding 'feeling rather than understanding cryptic lyrics' ... You gotta listen to Mitskis new album. It's nothing but that. And it made cry twice yesterday.
Also, literally any of Juliens albums. Leave it to Julien to mess you up in a way you've never been messed up before. It's amazing how she straddles this fine line between hopeless despondency and clinging to life despite the overwhelming amount of bad everywhere. This side of her doesn't come out as clearly on her boygenius music because she actually seems to be happy when she's around Phoebe and Lucy but her solo material is depressingly dark... which is all the more reason to experience it.

for some boygenius lore: i highly recommend listening to the trilogy of solo songs amongst phoebe, lucy and julien: Graceland Too - Phoebe, Please Stay - Lucy, Favor - Julien (in that order). all of these songs have backing vocals from the other 2 members of boygenius, and are definitely talking about the same situation- and omg... they are tear jerkers.

I know you guys have probably gotten this request a million times, but you should really react to Lucy’s latest album Home Video. Every single song has the most perfect story telling, and her voice is so stunning on every track. There’s even a couple songs where Phoebe and Julien do backing vocals. Also just so happens to be one of the most universally relatable albums I have ever heard. <3
