Gosh, Aurora's songs have been especially hitting me lately, but this one dug just a little deeper than normal. Like the family shown, mine was/is very much the same. Sitting at the dinner table, not really knowing much of anything about each other. We had a decent middle working class, white, christian life. My mother doesn't have any hobbies outside of taking care of children and making food, the things she used to do and enjoy she stopped doing for lack of time. My father spends most of his time watching tv or hiding away in some room in the house watching things on his phone. My parents don't know anything my brothers or I am interested in. Even now I still live in this house, being the youngest, and the unfamiliarity and lack of camaraderie with my own family leaves my home feeling melancholy.
When I was a child I was very bright, friendly, extroverted, and enjoyed having attention/being in photos/being part of things. The taboo of talking about my feelings and looking down of my attitude towards the world cause me to become self-conscious, introverted, anxious, and frankly, monotonous.
Our proof of love is hidden, and we don't understand each other's own feelings. My family very much buries things down, and we're worse off for it.

Watching this music video with the song, and seeing a family around the dinner table, I almost burst into crying. You can clearly see how everyone around the table is battling something inside. The atmosphere is off, there are no smiles. You see all this delicious festive food, puddings and a big cake, they're celebrating a birthday. What is supposed to be a happy family birthday dinner is disrupted by internal conflicts within individuals, affecting the rest of the family around the table. And you wonder in silence what is going on.

Aurora, I've said it before and I'll say it again (and this is coming from a middle aged man who battles depression, anxiety and PTSD), YOU ARE AN ANGEL, A SHINING STAR AND THE ABSOLUTE EXPRESSION OF LOVE! I don't understand how, but Aurora laways manages to put some primal emotion(love) in her songs, and she gets better and better at it. I can't finish this song without ending up crying and I've listened to it at least 10 times today. Simply amazing.

I think we all long for the innocent time in our lives, no matter how brief it may have been, when we could trust even through the pain that things would get better. When we get older, sometimes we look back and see what we missed in our optimismâhow tired our parents may have been, how little we invested in the bonds that felt so strong at the time, all the little ways we shut ourselves off a little more with every disappointment.
