In 2019, @cityandcolour lost a dear friend, producer and engineer Karl "Horse" Bareham. Then the pandemic hit, and the bandmates were forced to grieve separately. The Love Still Held Me Near is the album that came out of that grief. "I kind of just dove headfirst into this idea that I could help myself by making something beautiful out of pain," said Dallas Green, before performing on the album's April 2023 release day at Vancouver's HippoSonic Recording Studios. "All you really can do is move forward."

That sound engineer put on a masterclass in mixing. The instrument separation and tone on everything is absolutely perfect! Iā€™d love to see this released in some form of physical audio!

Lost my son at 22. He's on my puter wearing a City & Colour tee. We both listened to Dallas back then. Spread the love brother.

I remember listening to ā€œSave your Scissorsā€ in high school battling depression, ā€œWhat Makes a Man?ā€ As I found myself in college, and ā€œAs Much as I ever Couldā€ when I met the love of my life. I could never imagine City and Colour making a song that fails to show me light in darkness. Thank you for everything!

This is easily the best bunch of musicians heā€™s worked with under city and colour.

First song in, this is the line up. This is the group I think heā€™s been needing this whole time. What a fantastic album, unreal sound. I hope Dallas sticks with these guys, this might be his best record yet, I canā€™t imagine anything topping this.

This album is incredible, but "Bow down to love" is a literal masterpiece. The way it builds and then each member is able to play so emotionally through their instrument, wow.

The best version of Waiting in my opinion. The old version made me feel sadness and sorrow but this one made me feel hopeful

Been a die hard fan of City and Colour since Sometimes in 2005; Dallas Green is the reason I started playing music myself. Love this guy.

The hurry and the harm changed my life and made it better. Iā€™m eternally grateful for the soul and vulnerability he puts into his work. šŸ˜¢

Two Coins, one of my favourite songs of all time. Years back working in cocktail bars, it was the inspiration behind one of my most successful drinks. A clarified/clear bloody mary, with a gold leaf wrapped 'coin' of freeze dried tomato pulp that the customer would place in the glass that transformed it to its red colour... 'Just put two coins upon my eyelids, So I can pay the poor man's toll'

The sensibility, the feeling, all involving City and Colour is breathtaking. Dallas is one of the greatest artists from our time. I just love them.

"I was missing my friend....so how do I carry on?" That lyric hits so hard, I lost my best friend to a drunk driver 7 years ago and it still hurts. I saw City and Colour live this year and it was nothing short of incredible.
