This song came out the day after my long-term crush had acted like he loved me at this party we were at, I'd never been held like that by anyone and it was absolute euphoria at the time. A day after this song was released, he admitted it didn't mean anything. I've never had a song speak to me in this way before, describing every single thought I've had surrounding him as well as the moments of realisation, only for them to be replaced by blind hope with the false attention he gives me. I hope that sometime in the future I will realise "he just wasn't the one". I resent him for what he's done to me, but I can't help but still feel love for him. This song is so validating for the girlies who are aware it's unrequited love and were hurting yet still held on to the tiniest sliver of hope things will eventually change for them... yes, I am talking about myself. To me, this song also feels like being consoled by the older sister I never had who knows the feeling of liking someone who didn't feel the same way. Or I can also look at it as present me looking back and comforting my past self.
