To demonstrate what a small world that the English aristocracy was, Jacquetta of Luxemburg was the second wife of John of Bedford, the uncle of Henry VI. Bedford was the head of the English government during Henry VI's minority, making Jacquetta the second highest ranking woman in the country. After Bedford's death, Jacquetta wed Richard Woodville. Jacquetta and Richard were the parents of Elizabeth Woodville, Edward IV's queen. Somerset was also an interesting character. He was rumored to be widowed Catherine of Valois' lover and the alleged father of Edmund Tudor, Henry VII's father. Also, Somerset was a favorite of Margaret of Anjou and the rumored father of Edward of Shrewsberry, Henry VI's heir.

An engaging and beautifully crafted documentary that delves into important historical narratives. The narrator's captivating voice adds depth to the storytelling, making it an enjoyable and informative experience. Despite its length, the exploration of the 'War of the Roses' and its significance as a civil war is both fascinating and thought-provoking.

Fantasticly well narrated and a comprehensive piece of documentary.
I also liked the undiluted version of the 1605 gunpowder plot. Mostly this story is told as though the unravelling of the plot is solely because of one of the conspirators gets a case of remorse, but it is more complicated than that.

I never thought, when started, this video would last three hours. I enjoyed it all though. My mother loved to refer to the ‘War of the Roses’ when I was a child. It has always fascinated me as well. I’m glad to hear it described as a ‘civil war’ as it was indeed (although at time very uncivil). One could make the case, I suppose, that the struggle for the soul of the nation continued in the succeeding century with Cromwell and his ‘round heads.’

Among the best English history documentaries I’ve ever seen. I’m not surprised, as this channel is probably my favorite for this type of subject material. Hats off to the creators.
