As a Daft Punk fan I wholeheartedly agree with this. Discovery is one of my favorite albums of all time, but I just can’t forgive them for being Fr*nch 🤮

the only downside to supporting the art is the fact that you're helping their pockets grow even after the crazy things they did, but these points are complete facts.

You know only a Kanye fan could make an elaborate video like this about how good art is still good art regardless of who made it.

Degenerocity can talk about the political and economic state of the world and it would still be entertaining.

Kanye’s art is so closely tied to his life that i don’t think you can truly appreciate his art without appreciating him as a person

Separating art from the artist goes two ways. One way is enjoying an artist's work and disregarding their morals or actions. The other way is holding the artist accountable for their morals and actions while putting aside their enjoyment of their art. Fans will often do the former while giving people crap for doing the latter.

Separating the two is good. People really build some parasocial relationship with people they don't personally know and they get surprised when they do anything like wtf.

I honestly find it hard to separate art from artist. As a musician myself, I feel that music is an extension of a musician’s thoughts, feelings, and personality just put into instruments and voices.

i dont think the problem is listening to problematic artists, the problem is people never seem to hold their top artists accountable which is the most damaging part. the problem with today's world is people choose what they want to believe, even if clear evidence is provided, which really sucks.

I feel like it’s okay to like something without liking the person behind it. And I feel like it’s also okay to dislike both. The important thing is being able to distinguish the two.

It's healthy separate the art from the artist but we'd all be lying if we said it didn't significantly decrease our enjoyment of the art

I've always been a fan of Kanye's music and it's helped me get through a lot in life, but I feel like some fans need to understand that not everything he says and does is the gospel.

Whenever conversations like this come up, I always wonder how many artistic legends of the past actually did very bad things that were just never discovered. Just think about how certain things used to be completely acceptable or, at the very least, considered "not that bad" at certain points in time. Really makes you thin about just how much of the most respected art, literature, and music in the world may have been made by people who did things that we consider to be absolutely unacceptable.
