I’ve been trying to decipher her riddle. She’s in the earth but she’s not a corpse She’s a mother in bloom but she’s not a flower For she does not reach towards the sun And with her, we will drink And with her, we will feast There is beauty in our beast. The middle line really gets to me because of the line in the song The Seed, “through daft and shadow I grow, I’m reaching light through the struggle” and “suffocate me so my tears can be rain, I will water the ground where I stand, so the flowers can grow back again” I’m very new to AURORA’s work but I can’t help but feel there is something here. The description sounds like what she’s talking about is intangible with tangible effects. The “poem” in the trailer triggers my thoughts in this order “A seed”, “fruit maybe? because fruit carries a plant’s ovaries and the seeds, therefore they can be considered a mother”, “fruit don’t reach toward the sun, they do the opposite, they fall to the ground”, “what can you do with all fruit? Make wine”, “Wine is always present in every traditional (medieval) feast”, “What often comes with drunkenness of wine/alcohol? Greed and lust. What grows in the shadows and eventually reaches the light through suffering? Greed.” “Greed and lust can be seen as beasts. And I have a feeling Aurora would be able to find beauty in that” Also in the song, Heathens, the verse “We’re guided by the lust” But that’s just my personal interpretation and I could be completely wrong here or missing something, like how the other songs and the mention of “when the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poisoned” in The Seed tie in… Edit: I almost completely forgot to add that in the song Cure for Me the imagery of apples specifically, shows up twice, once in the visualizer as the mini-game’s collectibles and again in the official video around Aurora! (Adds to the fruit theory)
