“[People’s attention spans] for nonsenses it’s shorter — for good stuff it’s longer” is a brilliant insight

jimmy’s point about “you have a shorter attention span for nonsense vs longer for good stuff” is great

My immediate thought when Jimmy described good comedians as those who can “change the thermostat of the mood” (8:48) was of Conan’s visit to Haiti where he did exactly that moments into a conversation w a group of people there still suffering after the latest destructive earthquake several years ago. I was already a fan of his comedy; it was then I became a lifelong admirer of his humanity as well. If you see this, Conan, thank you for that, and keep up the good work.

Doing a double take after seeing Jimmy Carr and Conan in a thumbnail. Two of my favorite worlds colliding!

14:17 Another great observation by Jimmy Carr regarding great comedy (and I guess life in general too) here is when he talks about what the American painter and visual artist Chuck Close used to say: "Inspiration is for amateurs, the rest of us go to work." He follows this up with saying that inspiration is the reward you get for turning up for work(i.e. your passion or work or hobby) everyday. I think this is a great insight!

More British comedians! I’d love to see Greg Davies here.

So much love from Southern Finland! ❤ I'm bilingual and lived in the UK, but assimilated North American influences very early, so I've grown up on both Python/Fast Show/Blackadder/panel concepts etc. as well as late night and US stand up classics. It's really cool to me that the "pond" is even narrower than before, lots of cultural appreciation and exchange going on. Thank you for all your work!

A young Jimmy Carr before he became a known comedian visited New York with his girlfriend and attended a taping of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien". He appeared in one of the shots of the audience. Does anybody remember which year/segment it is?

Jimmy Carr is fascinating, talks so well and has deep insight but is often overlooked because of his comedy

Jimmy was sharp! One of the few instances I've seen Conan not quite able to keep up with his guest in a game of wits.

The Big Fat Quiz of Everything - Watching Jimmy deal with those wrecking crews is a real gem. New Years tradition for me.

3:44 reminds me of the great Kids in the Hall sketch where Kevin's character is in court charged with molesting himself. He appears on the stand as the victim and as the defendant. Brilliant.
