Something that I noticed; Gretel: "I'm not a m@sochist" Hansel: "Pain's rather tasty"

"all this could have been avoided, all i wanted was to talk" is such a heavy line. Please, check on your friends even if they seem well and happy.

Interesting how Hanselā€™s song ended up getting more views and attention than Gretelā€™s in the end

I surprised how no one had brought up Hanselā€™s design. It is a rat with rings, another name for a pigeon. In some peopleā€™s eyes, theyā€™re easy to overlook. To others, they can be an unwanted sight. Theyā€™re seen as dirty, useless and diseased, when in reality theyā€™re gentle and clean (thus the part of him thatā€™s appealingly sweet)

Iā€™m assuming he died from a crazy bike stunt, which is why he talks about how riding a bike is exciting. Maybe a home-made ramp from a top of a building? He didnā€™t stick the landing and splattered onto the ground and the walls...

I think itā€™s interesting that Gretelā€™s song hardly mentions her brother, and you would have to hear his song to even know she had one and their relationship . But Hanselā€™s song mentions her directly as a point of suffering. Showing how obsessed he is over the attention she gets, he even says her source of struggle is her ā€œpity schemeā€.

Hansel is seen walking more faster and more aggressive while gretel is walking slow and soft, Hansel has a lot of bouncy sounds and expressive singing while gretel has a gloomy melody and a sad singing Hansel wanted attention Gretel wanted to be alone And they finally got what they wanted after they died

Can we all appreciate soddikens ability to change their voice easily?

Iā€™m guessing Hansel would be jealous of his sister because sheā€™d get all the attention because she was viewed as ugly, and sheā€™d get hurt for that. Meanwhile he didnā€™t get any and would do ANYTHING to get attention. He just wants to be remembered. Since heā€™d do anything, he starts doing dangerous stuff and hurts himself. He doesnā€™t care that heā€™s harming himself, because he was never given enough attention until now. Heā€™s never given attention even as he starts doing all of that. He likes his own funeral because he was finally given some attention. Give this man a hug. Man If anything Iā€™d try being friends with him

Did anyone notice how they are walking in different directions? It could be the way Hansel walks to a loud, messy death with lots of attention and publicity. While Gretel walks the opposite way, to a quiet death in a dark place. She is finally ā€œlostā€/ignored. I donā€™t know Iā€™m probably speculating about something that the creator didnā€™t mean

Why is nobody talking about how smooth the animation is?! That walk cycle is sick

This feels like hurting yourself for attention and affection. The end is suicide, and why isnā€™t everyone happy? They never cared anyways. ā€œMy name etched on a rock,ā€ the grave, ā€œall I wanted was to talkā€ all I wanted was your affection, and, to talk. If Iā€™m correct then this is pretty relatable

I find it interesting that Gretelā€™s song is even longer than this one- Meaning the attention is still on her, even after everything. Iā€™m not sure of this was intentional or not, but I still find it quite an interesting thing to note

Here's an interesting little motif I noticed: In Gretel's song, she says this: "When I say green, you think of cheese, but in my mind I'm picturing fresh tangerines". The cheese could represent death and decay, whereas the fresh tangerines could represent life and hope. In Hansel's song, he mentions "green alligators" (wishing they had eaten Gretel) and a "green luscious island" (not sure about this one). He also says "just like flies are drawn to the rotting cheese, are sadists attracted to misery, in this case it's another word for me". Seeing as Gretel explicitly says in her song "no, I'm not a masochist" and sadism and masochism go hand in hand, I think this implies Hansel sees himself as a masochist and sees Gretel as a sadist, who enjoys watching him suffer. This is all probably a bit of a stretch, but I figured I'd share it anyway! Edit: A couple of things I missed-- In one line, Hansel quite literally says "though pain's rather tasty." How did I miss that? Green is the color of envy. Gretel's hat is green, and Hansel's fur is green as well. In the beginning of Gretel's song, it sounds like she's playing pretend, maybe as a child, or reflecting how her song sounds very childish. Is Hansel the older brother? It sounds like they used to get along, too: "will you guide me?" Says Gretel, and Hansel says "yes, of course." But also, she says "was I born to be tortured?" As she says this, a smaller, quieter voice sings along to this. Definitely Hansel! There's so much more I could speculate and theorize on, but I'm trying to keep this comment focused to prevent it becoming too long and unreadable. Feel free to add your ideas in the replies :)

2:42 I think I finally understand what this line means. The ā€œgreen luscious islandā€ heā€™s referring to is the ground beneath him when heā€™s high up preforming his dangerous stunts, and the ā€œdiamondsā€ that cover it are actually lights from houses and buildings and such.

i'm so sad that the story of sodikken's hansel & gretel isn't a whole piece of media with a fandom and everything. i can't just look anywhere online for a fandom or fan group or whatever, i have to find all the character analysis here ;;;;

Thereā€™s such a stark difference in content with Hansel and Gretelā€™s songs. If you only watch Hanselā€™s, youā€™d think Gretel is a attention seeker who purposely takes the spotlight from her brother who needs help, but if you watch Gretelā€™s youā€™d see the attention sheā€™s given is because people think sheā€™s a freak due to her condition. I find it fitting that Hansel turned into a ghost (him being able to see his own funeral and even the memorial they made for him) while Gretel ended up in Hell with the monsters (Referencing that sheā€™s somewhere with cannibals, and in the beginning of her song she asks why sheā€™s in Hell). Both siblings wanting opposite things, when this all couldā€™ve been avoided had they just looked towards each other for comfort. Hansel wouldā€™ve understood the reason for Gretelā€™s attention and even wouldā€™ve gotten attention from her, While Gretel could be around someone who doesnā€™t view her as a monster and instead a person.

The "whole garden of flowers" section sounded SO PRETTY! Honestly I'd LOVE to hear an entire song sung like that! The whole thing was awesome, but that part is just so pretty to me!

I know most people take this for just a portrayal of Hansel the character, but as someone who lost their s.o to suicide, this song hits hard. Very well written! makes me cry a lot
