The RCMPs' number 1 computer security guy sends an unsecured, incriminating email to the bad guys soliciting bribes. Makes you wonder just how inept the rest of RCMP is.

Narcissists can be very dangerous. Personality tests should be given to potential employees.

Iā€™d be OK with CBCs entire budget being devoted to The Fifth Estate and Marketplace

A govt that keeps its own secrets guarded from the public but demands transparency from its citizens is neither free nor democratic.

Re-qualifying for TOP security clearance with the RCMP every F I V E years, in what world does that even make sense???. It should be minimally yearly and the personsā€™ private life (financial) be scrutinized.

It really bothers me that the RCMP really feel like they have the absolute right to access everyone's private communication. They were acting like them not having instant access to everything was a huge travesty of justice. Remember back when they needed a warrant and probable cause to tap a phone. Now they record everything.

They should just use AM radio, no one has the gear to even tune in to those stations anymore lol

The fact that they're talking as if having a phone with privacy and security capabilities is somehow immoral or bad is ridiculous. We all have a right to privacy and security regardless if it happens to assists criminals.

Great story. But notice that CBC recommends using "secure drop" to submit sensitive stories - while at the same time condemning the same encryption technology in the story. Privacy and confidential communication are necessary for trade, journalism, free speech and banking. Encryption is a tool that we all use every day and isn't inherently evil.

I was a Private First Class in the US Army Security Agency in the 60ā€s. It seems I was given more attention than that what was given to higher ranking officers! Background checks, psychological exams, drug tests, constant monitoring! My job description was to feed tape into a machine and monitor a teletype machine in code! Never knew what was being received or transmitted! Yet always monitored!
