Terry Davis (author of TempleOS) demos his SimStructure physics simulator.

Here he makes a PID controller (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PID_controller) based on math from the book "Numerical Recipes In C".

PID controllers are found everywhere today. They control rockets and even a simple espresso machine like the Lelit PL41TEM.

We are sorry, we let you down Terry. It is our fault, we failed as humans to let such an amazing mind be lost.

"Back in 2000 it was pretty impressive, but now they have grand theft auto and stuff." I think this phrase is relevant in a sense not many people can understand. Regarding the software, after Terry's demonstration it still impressive even today. It's so unfair such a brilliant mind be screwed by such a terrible disease. Rest in peace, Terry.

Safe to say this man was on a totally different level of extremely smart.

I like how people are saying this is simple and any engineering student can make this. This guy literally sat down in his chair and throughly explained everything in detail with no google or anything. His level of understanding is what makes him so brilliant especially back in the day.

Whenever YouTube recommends me Terry Davis videos I always watch them in their entirety and end up depressed

I love how lucid and coherent he is here. His explanation is great. We miss a true genius. :(

It's actually a really brilliant introduction to control theory.

This is a legitimate alternative to simulink. Especially simulink in the year 2000. This guy was a genius. I think like so many other geniuses before him, he will only be appreciated long after his death.

Okay the fact that he wrote all of this from scratch as a hobby is just mind blowing

Maybe Terry died because TempleOS was seen as complete by God and God decided it was time for Terry to return to heaven.

He made and OS with a compiler and assembler and now this UI with physics and PID controller and a command interpreter? Very impressive programmer. Much respect.

Poor guy... Seems like he was really creative and super highly motivated to make things. That's what makes a programmer good.

The more I see of Terry's work, the more I'm convinced he really was the smartest programmer that ever lived

Just a measure of how smart this dude is: he made and tweaked a PD-controller in less than 3 minutes, something my teachers expect me to do in 3 weeks.

I honestly didnt think I would watch the whole thing, but I watched the whole thing.

He knew his control theory.

Its a well known fact that he build his own compiler to create his own OS.... But I was not aware that he build his own Physics simulator that could be used to create his own Rocket simulator... This man was king... He was a genius.
