I was surprised that none of the main theories focused on the fact that it landed in a bog. As in bog gasses, which are explosive. Swamp gasses have been identified as the cause of explosions before. So, an impact event would be more than enough for gasses trapped in the bog to ignite. Maybe even before/simultaneous to the rock fragments actually hitting, the heat ignites the gasses and triggers the explosion. Hence the charred trees, and also the trees in the immediate area still standing. An explosion from the gasses would have exerted sudden pressure from below and all around, so not pushing the trees in any one direction at the epicentre. That would also explain the sounds heard after, it's the debris blown apart from the explosion being rocketed out and hitting things. And for the impact site itself, it would be smaller than would usually be needed for a shock wave of that size, if the gas explosion was the main source of the shock wave. And also, it's a bog. Bogs are spongy ground, with an upper layer of peat, so the indent from impacts would probably be filled in quite quickly. Which would explain the impact site as level. The theory about volcanic gasses has the gas element there, but this would be much more likely. It's a bog, so gas presence would be likely. And there wouldn't be signs of a big gas bubble built up within the bog afterwards, as the gasses would have burned up in the explosion.

For Shane: a meteoroid is a small rock in space, a meteor is when that rock enters the Earth's atmosphere, and a meteorite is when that rock lands on the ground. An asteroid is the same thing, but usually much bigger. A comet is a ball of ice with a tail that always points away from the Sun. Comets orbit the sun in a very elliptical orbit and that's why we only see them every hundred years or so. Most asteroids orbit in the asteroid belt in our solar system between Mars and Jupiter. I believe comets usually come from the Kuiper belt but I might be misremembering that.

About the whole "They believe they found material consistent with meteoritic content" thing - it's phrased that way because scientists really try to avoid stating anything with certainty, because that would be, well, lying. You can't really have certain conclusions in science, it's more about finding the best explanation.

Ghoul Boys: We don't like to talk about gruesome murders
Also Ghoul Boys: Haha, let's cut Steven Lim in half and hollow him out so his entrails don't hang from each half!
😂but in all seriousness, we are here for whatever you guys are interested in talking about. So, glad you guys made a choice for what suits you better.
