I sang this song to my friend before he passed away in 2017. Since then, I couldn't listen to even the first few chords without crying because I would be reminded that he was gone. This song reminded me that I wouldn't be able to watch him paint anymore. I wouldn't be able to talk about life, the future, and art with him anymore. I wouldn't be able to sing with him anymore, or hear his constructive critique when I made a new drawing of my own. If there was one person who didn't deserve to go before his time, it was him. He was the kind of person who would make you smile, and the first to offer his help when you needed it most. He was the kind of person that brought others together. He is the reason I met my best friend, and why I continue to make art despite everything. I sometimes feel that the best people have the worst happen to them, and for a long time, I considered this song to be a painful reminder that he was gone. But he would always tell me that life was about change. Sometimes it's for the worse, but even when things are bad, the bad reminds you of all the good that has happened, and it would only be a little while longer until things turned around. I'm always going to be sad that he's gone. Nothing will change that, but now, the song is a reminder that I had a great friend like him. It's good to remember, because if you don't, you forget what it was like to laugh with a friend like him, or share his company. You'll forget how much people like him encouraged you to keep moving forward. You'll forget that people like him give you the strength to live on, even if they aren't around anymore. This song means the world to me. This rendition made me cry because it helped me realize how much the song actually meant to me and why I love it so much. Thank you so much for creating this version.
