First time I encountered drag culture as a whole was at my first Pride event. I walked in front of my local drag kings and I will admit I did stare, and when they asked if I needed something, I just said I was jealous and that I wanted to look like that. One of them stopped me mid march, gave me a hug, and said "okay son". That's always going to stay with me.

I'm really glad that afab performers are being given the spotlight like this. Even as a trans man who does drag as a queen, there are so many more hurdles created by the fact that I wasn't born with a penis. There's literally national pageant systems where there are no biological requirements to run more the mister title, but to with for Miss you have to be born male.

I saw Spikey perform nearly a decade ago at a Pride event. He was my introduction to drag kings and I will never forget that show. I was over the moon seeing him in this video alongside Dragula winner Landon Cider, and loved being introduced to Molasses.

Landon is so well spoken and educated on his industry. Heās a great representative for Drag Kings! For anyone more interested in learning about Landon, watch dragula season 3. Dragula in general is a great show for learning more about alternative drag, which is super interesting and creative! It deserves more attention imo.

Iāve been an āexotic dancerā (donāt want to get in youtube trouble) for like four years and one of the main things that helped me get comfortable with my job was pretending i was a drag queen or just channeling that kind of energy.
This interview really, really hit home. As a girl who grew up never feeling like a girl and wanting to be with the boys, Spikeyās story was just so inspiring and to know that through my work Iāve managed to achieve a similar sense of liberation that they have, was just so relieving.
