Not only a terrific song lyrically, but showcases what a great band they were. Brilliant drum fills and bassline by Joyce and Rourke. Love the drum fill at 2:31

This is how I feel nearly every minute of my life. I was elated to find a song that describes it so perfectly. This is one of my favorite songs. I've just been so dissolutioned with the world. Felt this way since I was 12 years old. Sick of it. But life goes on, glad I found the smith's.

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour But heaven knows I'm miserable now I was looking for a job, and then I found a job And heaven knows I'm miserable now In my life Why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die? Two lovers entwined pass me by And heaven knows I'm miserable now I was looking for a job, and then I found a job And heaven knows I'm miserable now In my life Oh, why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die? What she asked of me at the end of the day Caligula would have blushed "Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said And I naturally fled In my life Why do I smile At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye? I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour But heaven knows I'm miserable now "Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said And I naturally fled In my life Oh, why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die?

"Oh, you been in the house too long she said, and I naturally fled." This one hits home. The need to be defiant in the face of criticism. That strange urge to prove them wrong.

Stole this cassette tape back in 88 from my ex girlfriends brother. I was a huge death metal head at the time. I was a fan of the smiths ever since. Truly extraordinary written music with of course vocals that only Morrissey could pull off.
