Kharn, gotta be one of my favourite characters in the 40k universe. He starts out so noble as the Equerry of Angron, Primarch of the XII Legion Astartes, The World Eaters. Also Captain of the 8th Assault Company. Totally bonkers and as mad as a barrel of one eyed trouser Snakes well before the culmination of the Battle for the Eternity Gate. Such an unhinged psyche must be great fun for the fabulous authors who dwell deep in the stacks of the Black Library.

Appeasing the dark algorithm here, but I always thought less of Kharn than he deserves until getting to Prince of Blood. This makes it so clear that Kharn is simply on a path of survival, and (correctly) believes his best chances of survival are in devoting his life to Khorne. No illusions of grandeur, no megalomaniac ambitions, no space for doubt in his singular goal let alone any other goals. As pure an anti-hero as anyone can get!

Truly outstanding - I had no idea this stage of the legion's descent had been covered at all, let alone so impressively and eloquently. Khârn's speech to Lotara about his (and the legion's) relationship with their still unnamed and dimly perceived god genuinely made my flesh creep...
Is there any follow-up in subsequent stories on Khârn's promised vendetta against the Word Bearers? I suspect it gets forgotten entirely in favour of divinely-inspired hatred for the Emperor's Children by the time of the Legion Wars.
