My Dad played with Freddie Hubbard in San Francisco one night on Broadway. The next night, Freddie came over our house for dinner. I was only about 12 at the time. My Dad, who also played trumpet, and taught myself, asked I come out in the living-room, and play a song for Freddie. So..I did. Freddie shook my hand, and said, "hey, this kid has some chops". I will never forget it. Needless to say, I later quit playing the trumpet. When I was about 20 years old. Although, I never stopped loving jazz.
