As a Belgian it is very important to say to foreigners that we have a old beer culture developing many centuries, giving rise to such a wide range of beer types and flavours. Those pilsners (around 5-6%) are considered as light beers and mostly drunk at parties, after work days, ..., as 'fast drinks'. Those stronger beers (starting at 8%) are more like 'slow drinks' you enjoy in small sips along with snacks like cheese. You drink these more for the flavour, and in the beginning you have to learn to drink them. But once used to it, the high alcohol precentage is not bothering any more. (Btw, 8% is still average. My personal favorite is Kasteel Cuvée, a dark beer of 11%.)

Duvel is definitely an acquired taste, it's very bitter, and considered a "real man's beer" here. The 6.66 is the "light" version tho, normal Duvel is 8.5% and packs a real punch! :)Some of my favorite beers to try : Tripel Karmeliet, Cornet or Omer

Tasting Belgian beers being German is just a different thing. Germans like a standard taste and drink A LOT ! It's all about the volume! Belgians do not drink volume they drink quality and like a clear identity. That's why there are SO many Belgian breweries and as already said there are more than 1500 different beers. From a number of brands you chose the styles that were recently added to cater to modern styles: The Bush beer was infused with peach juice, the Duvel was a spin off from the traditional beer. And from Chimay I would always pick the Chimay Blue (the double) in my opinion the best double beer in Belgium. My favorites: The traditional Duvel in summer and the Chimay Blue in winter. But I love to try new beers... There are so many good beers. The shape of the glass really influences the beer tasting sensation! Another advise: Never drink so many styles on 1 occassion. Some of the beers have living yeast in them and might upset your stomach when mixed with other styles of beer !!!

As a Flemish Belgian myself, I am always curious to what non natives think of our beers. A few comments: - small one: Albert Heijn is a supermarket chain from the Netherlands - Jupiler and Stella Artois are like the standard beers you have at parties and when you have people come over. Like you said: nothing offensive and neutral, so most people will be content with them. I like to drink it when I worked a whole day in the garden. - Hoegaerden is a bit lighter on the alcohol side, but has some citrus zest in it. Tastes best when the weather is sunny and you don't want anything heavy. - Proost is the Dutch word for Prost - I like kriek also:) or in general, the more sweet beers. I like Liefmans (on the rocks) a lot More in this direction: there is a cherry Chouffe (Houblon), which tastes a lot like a kriek, but is 8,5%. - From Chimay I don't really like the white one, but the blue one is very good (I saw someone mention this also). - One I truly miss, is Tripel Karmeliet. Great beer! - maybe you can make a video series dedicated to krieks or triples?

After drinking three 8% trappist beers, a 5% lager does indeed taste like water!

As a Belgian on the Flemish side i’m very familiar with these beers. All are very different in taste and basicly the most standard beers available in Belgium. This is a good start for tasting Belgian beers. I would haven chosen differently, but this works also. About Kriek. It’s beer that mostly is popular by women. I would have gone with a Lambic or Geuze, because of the taste. You have to taste this first to rate a Kriek beer. I liked it too, but can’t drink anymore, because of health issues. Don’t worry. I’ve drink my beers😉. On another note. I love the content. Keep up the good work😃

You've guys buyed the wrong Duvel, the populair one is like 8,5% alcohol. But the taste is really strong and bitter, some people hate it and some people love it. Me as a Belgian, it's not my favorite but is a very unique taste. I never drank an other beer that even get close to that taste. So next time you come to belgium drink the right original duvel and not the 6,66 crap ;) P.S: I enjoyed the video very much !

As a Belgian, i find it so funny that almost every foreigner is overwelmed by the high percentages. Hence most of the time they don't like it. The percentages you guys are used to, we drink as a refreshner after work. Just like a soda :p The stronger beers here have soooo many different flavors and that is what makes it so good. We also drink these "slowly". Belgians don't just drink liters of beer (at least most of us) like they do on something like october fest. We enjoy the flavors and take our time to take it all in. BTw most of those fruit flavored beers are consumed and enjoyed by women here. Cause it is sweeter and easyer to drink than the more bitter and hop tasting beers For some other good beers. Here are some suggestions. - Trippel Karmeliet - Cornet - Gouden Carrolus Trippel Also little tip. Clean the glass between different drinks. Or use a new one. Since the resting flavor might influence the new beers taste.

Belgian beers are undoubtedly the best for choice and variety. The range is outstanding. Depending on the weather, the mood, food, etc there is a high quality beer to fit the situation. I love Belgian sour beers, my son detests them. I used to work for an English brewery and did my dissertation on the brewing industry and prefer Bavarian and Czech beers for everyday drinking, Belgian for special occasions and American for washing the dog.

"I'm guessing most people buy singles" nope, most people buy the triples. Also that Duvel is actually a lighter variant of Duvel, normally it's about the same as the Delirium Tremens (it's the same type of beer)

This is a fun watch, but for next time, a tip is to build up the percentages and flavours. If you start off with a strong alcoholic and flavoured beer, then yeah obviously the Jupiler will taste watery. So build it up. Look up the flavour profiles - put high alcohol and high flavour at the end. i would have started with the Jupiler, then the Hoegaarden, then maybe the peach and kriek, after that I would have put the more strongly flavoured ones, ending with the Westmalle, which is very potent. It might change your view on the beers.

As a Belgian, I love the content. The reason these beers are all high percentages is because you tried the STRONG beers. We also have a lot of pilseners like Jupiler, but also Maes, Stella, Cara, Tout Bien, ... If we want to get drunk on a party or something, we often drink the pilseners because you can drink more of it. If we go out in a pub, we would choose the strong ones but only drink 2-3 for the whole night. It's all about enjoy your beers and their different flavors. It's taking small sips (not chug).

I work as a brewer in a lambic brewery. Lambic is a beer which is fermented in open air. The yiest is specific to the Zennevallei region and gives a specific taste. Lambic is flat beer, it has no co2 so not carbonated. To make Geuze you need to mix young and aged lambic to start the fermentation in the bottle. It is typically a sour beer. All lambic breweries make fruit beers, mostly kriek. Some brands are sweeter then other.

Don’t waste the leftovers! Make a great beef or lamb stew and a delicious beer bread to go with it. Really easy recipes.

in Belgium, the legal drinking age is sixteen. From that age, you can start drinking beers and wines (no strong liquors until you're 18). Maybe that explains our higher tolerance. And like you said most people start of with drinking pils (like the jupiler). When you're a little bit older, you also start to appreciate the more complicated and complex flavours in the stronger beers. 🇧🇪🇧🇪

This video just proves Germans don't know what real beer tastes like. The reason Jupiler tastes better to you is because it's a pilsner and Germans are known for their pilsners. Pilsners only have been around for 100 years. Trappists have been around for 400 years. I was shocked you didn't like Delerium
