something really interesting about this:
it tastes sweet to human tastebuds, it stimulates the TAS1R2 and TAS1R3 taste buds, which are the same ones that respond to sugar and artificial sweeteners, but we have basically no idea why it does that.
there's no biological/chemical reason it should interact differently than normal water.
it 100% should just taste like water given our current understanding of the human body.
these are two of the main (totally unproven) hypotheses people have come up with so far:
1. that there is some sort of inertial/vibrational aspect to taste that we currently don't know about. we don't even have a great guess for how our body would be doing that.
2. that by being heavier, it's exerting some osmotic pressure somewhere that those sweet taste buds (or the associated nerves that carry the message) in particular are sensitive to.
