Fun fact: since the 9C uses pulse guidance, it doesn’t trigger RWR launch prompts. The lock is registered by the RWR but there won’t be a missile launch warning.

The AIM-9C being radar guided is also what made it possible to turn into the most esoteric sidewinder derivative, the AGM-122 sidearm anti-radiation missile.

Fun fact! The F-8E is one of the few jets in the game that can successfully do a cobra manoeuvre - but you will lose a bunch of altitude doing so, so don’t try it near the ground!

Honestly I love the Aim-9c. Think about it's an all aspect missile with really good range(It can do head on shot 19 km att 10 km altitude) and turn at 10.3. My logic is that the Aim-9d pretty much the Ir version of the 9c. The Aim-9D will get 1 flared anyway so why not have an all aspect sidewinder and one that gives you more kills bcuz it needs chaff.

Pretty sure one of the soviet jets also has a (reverse engineered) radar guided sidewinder

I often use them on a full headon situation if the radar allows me, they can be chaffed away but when you launch them at 2km and approaching the target usually dies by simply the proxy of the missile.

Considering the sidewinder is one of the most lethal air to air missiles ever created... Yeah i can see why its popular

Its doesnt trigger launch warning on RWR and majority of players dont use chaff on 9.3-11.3 since they have very small amount of countermeasures (or even none at all) so its better to use flares as 95% of missiles you face are IR and most of the SARH that they may encounter are shit anyway. AIM-9C is very useful cause of that

It doesnt defeat the missile it distrupt the radar it isnt an infrared missile so it cant be disrupted but the radar can

This missile is good in simulator battles...
Especially if your enemy chooses to climb for a reason then you have an all aspect and they don't get a launch warning.
