I think the Japanese manga Shimanami Tasogare (Our Dreams at Dusk) is very similar to Heartstopper. I liked Heartstopper because it reminded me of that. It is also a story about a gay boy written by an asexual author, and has various types of LGBT characters, and the cutest lesbian wedding! And, the art is just breath-taking!

Oh yes, I have so many recs!
- Our Dreams at Dusk: Shimanami Tasogare by Yuhki Kamatani (this is by far the closest rec to the Heartstopper graphic novels in terms of experience. This is probably the best queer manga currently in existence that actually deals with the homophobia and transphobia in Japan. A gay teen finds a group of queer people and learns how to accept himself.)
- Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (gay trans guy who is part of a secret Latinx society of brujo/as living in modern LA. His community wonât let him perform the ritual to become a brujo since they donât think it will work since heâs trans. Cue attempting to prove himself and accidentally falling for an adorable hyperactive gay ghost.)
- And They Lived⌠Steven Salvatore (genderqueer protag starting college and dealing w/ body image issues)
- The Sky Blues by Robbie Couch (Gay promposal, finding a supportive community)
- Alex in Wonderland by Simon James Green (under-appreciated gem about a boy who starts working for the kitschy âWonderlandâ on the beach boardwalk. Sabotage mystery plot included.)
- Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun by Jonny Garza Villa (Gay Latino teen from Texas starts chatting online with adorable Vietnamese guy in LA. Super adorable and well done long-distance relationship.)
- The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen (based off the Bright Sessions podcast) (Jock teen develops superpower where he becomes a literal empath and his new therapist for âAtypicalsâ encourages him to befriend the nerdy kid with depression.)
- Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales (Grease but gay.)
- The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune (Teen with ADHD who writes gay fanfic about NYCâs resident superhero and villain. He has a crush on the hero but he doesnât actually know the guy⌠or does he?)

I'd recommend the book i wish you all the best! It's a pretty wholesome book although trigger warning for a queer teen being kicked out. It's about Ben de backer, a nonbinary teen who came out to their parents only to be kicked out so they're forced to move in with their older sister and move to a new school, they also have a cute romance with a boy in said new school.
Also if you read the novels on webtoon/have webtoon i recommend "encore!" Which has very similar vibes

Another one I'd recommend is Classmates (also known as Doukyuusei in JP), a very short, sweet and simple love story available in movie or manga format between two boys soon to graduate from high school. Its art style is very stylistic and although there's not much going on in the story, the two main characters have a very heartwarming relationship that totally makes up for it. When I first started reading Heartstopper its atmosphere reminded me a bit of Doukyuusei, and being such a short story with only 6 chapters (or 1h runtime for the movie) makes it easy to fit into anyone's schedule

I would recommend all of Alice Oseman's other work, especially Radio Silence and Loveless. If you want more Nick and Charlie content, they appear in Solitaire and the two Solitaire novellas "This Winter" and "Nick and Charlie" (this last one obviously focuses on them)
