Tirukalathi temple also known as Thirukalahasti is located in tirupati district of Andhra state. It is revered as Vayu Thala in Panchabhuta stalas. Srikalahasti is one of the most important temples among the famous temples of Andhra state.

This temple is located on the banks of Ponmugalia river called Sornamukhi. Here Lord Kalathinath is graced as Swayambumurthy. He is Kalathiappar, Kalahastiswar, Kalathinathar, Kudumithevar. He is called by the nicknames.

Ambigai Gnanaprashunambigai, Gnanpoongotai, Gnanasundari, She is given the names Gnanambikai. Among the 51 Shakti Peedhams of Ambigai, it is the Jnana Shakti Peedham. It is the 252nd Devarathiruthalam among the 274 temples that have received the hymn of Lord Shiva.

Appar, Sundarar, Sambandar, etc., have worshiped this place. It is also noteworthy that Sambandar, who came here and sang Bhatikam, sang and worshiped places like Kailayam, Kedaram, Kokarnam, Tiruparupadam, Indranilaparupadam etc. from here. This place is revered as the place where Kannappa's philanthropy took place. The Shiva Lingam worshiped by Kannapar is on the top of the hill. At the foot of the hill is the temple of Kalahastheeswarar. The hill here is called 'Kailasakhiri' and Kannapar Hill.

One of the Panchabhuta thalams, it is distinguished as a Vayu sthalam. Si(re) means spider, Kala means snake and Athi means elephant. Sthala Purana says that the spider, snake, and elephant once worshiped the lord of this temple and attained salvation, hence the name of this temple came to be "Sikalathi" and Sri Kalahasti..

When you take off the gold armor worn by the Lord and perform aarti, you can see the shape of a spider at the base of the Shiva Lingam, the two tusks of an elephant in the middle, the shape of a five-headed snake at the top, Kannappa's eye scar is on the right side of the lingam. The top of the Shivalinga looks like a five-headed naga. Green camphor water is anointed here for the good. All other abhishekams are for Audhai.

Ambal - She is seen in a beautiful form in the Thirukolam where Jnanapoongota stood. Her Thiruvadi has 'Artha Meru' consecrated by Sri Adisankara Bhagavad Patar. There is a figure of 'Ketu' on the pendant of Ambal.

திருகாளஹஸ்த்தி எனப்படும் திருக்காளத்தி திருத்தலம் ஆந்திர மாநிலம் சித்தூர் மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. பஞ்சபூத தலங்களில் இது வாயு தலமாக போற்றப்படுகிறது. ஆந்திர மாநிலத்தின் புகழ்பெற்ற கோயில்களில் ஸ்ரீகாலஹஸ்தி மிகவும் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த திருத்தளமாக விளங்குகிறது.

சொர்ணமுகி எனப்படும் பொன்முகலியாற்றின் கரையில் இத்திருத்தலமானது அமைந்திருக்கிறது.

இங்கு இறைவன் காளத்திநாதர் சுயம்புமூர்த்தியாக அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். இவர் காளத்தியப்பர், காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வர், காளத்திநாதர், குடுமித்தேவர்.
என்ற திருநாமங்களால் அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.

அம்பிகை ஞானப்பிரசுனாம்பிகை, ஞானப்பூங்கோதை, ஞானசுந்தரி,
ஞானாம்பிகை என்ற பெயர்களில் வழங்கப்படுகிறாள்.

அம்பிகையின் 51 சக்தி பீடங்களில் இது ஞான சக்தி பீடம் ஆகும். சிவபெருமானின் பாடல் பெற்ற 274 சிவாலயங்களில் இது 252 வது தேவாரத்திருத்தலமாகும்.

அப்பர், சுந்தரர்,சம்பந்தர் முதலிய தேவார மூவரால் இத்தலம் பாடப்பெற்றிருக்கிறது. இங்கு வந்து பதிகம் பாடிய சம்பந்தர், இங்கிருந்தவாறே கயிலாயம், கேதாரம், கோகர்ணம், திருப்பருப்பதம், இந்திரநீலப்பருப்பதம் முதலிய தலங்களைப் பாடித் தொழுதார் என்பதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

இத்தலம் கண்ணப்பர் தொண்டாற்றிபேறு பெற்ற தலமாக போற்றப்படுகிறது. கண்ணப்பர் வழிபட்ட சிவலிங்கம் மலைஉச்சியில் உள்ளது. மலையடிவாரத்தில் காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் ஆலயம் அமந்துள்ளது. இங்கிருக்கும் மலையானது 'கைலாசகிரி என்றும் கண்ணப்பர் மலை என்றும் வழங்கப்படுகிறது.

பஞ்சபூதத் தலங்களில் ஒன்றான இது வாயுத் தலமாக சிறப்பிக்கப்படுகிறது.

சி(ரீ) என்றால் சிலந்தி என்றும் காள என்றால் பாம்பு என்றும் அத்தி என்றால் யானை என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

சிலந்தி, பாம்பு, யானை ஆகிய மூன்றும் ஒரு காலத்தில் இத்தலத்து இறைவனை வழிபட்டு முக்தி அடைந்ததால், இத்தலத்திற்கு “சீகாளத்தி’ என்றும், ஸ்ரீ காளஹஸ்தி என்றும் பெயர் ஏற்பட்டதாக தல புராணம் கூறுகிறது.

வாயு (காற்று)தலமாக இருக்கும் காரணத்தால் மூலஸ்தானத்தில் இருக்கும் விளக்கு காற்றில் ஆடிக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறது.
