This is one of the most blatant straw man arguments ever. "Anger at abuse of religion" is too hard to dispute as unfounded. "Angry with God" is easily dismissed as something a crank would do. Mike Winger's dishonesty only stokes the anger.

The whole "anger" thing...
It's just the apologist way to oversimplify (maybe to themselves) why someone would voluntarily or involuntarily become an Atheist. For some apologists it's the only way they can rationalize it.
And I think we all know apologists have a great talent for rationalization ;-)

I'm Christian and I agree with your point that atheists aren't angry at God. Why would you be angry at something that in your opinion doesn't exist? That makes no sense.

When I was growing up I had a friend who was not religious and he told me that he didn't want to think. I believe that this is the problem. Yes, there are plenty of religious people who fall into this trap, but I can also say the same thing about people who watch the news everyday and blindly believe everything they hear. I can say the same thing about people who want to believe that education is blindly trusting the so called 'experts' even though there are plenty of examples where the experts ended up being wrong. I can say the same thing about people who blindly trust society even though it has proven time and time again that the world does not have our best interests at heart. In the end, we are our own worst enemy.
