Since everyone is concerned about the cooked bones
If you cook chicken bones in this way, they break down into an almost chalky texture and just disintegrate. No splinters. It takes 2-3 days of heat in water to do this though, so definitely don't give chicken bones to dogs unless fully broken down

For all those concerned about giving your dogs bones. You can boil down for hours or put them in a pressure cooker for a few hours. You want them to basically be a past texture. If they are soft but you are still concerned about shards hurting your dog, put the bones in a food processor with a bit of the water and make it into a paste. Add a little into your dogs food everyday. Hope this helps!!

A few years back I canned 40# of chicken that I cut off the bone. Then I cooked the bones for the broth. After the broth was done, I cooked them down even more so our dog could have them, then canned that for her.

I thought cooked bones weren't good for dogs bc they can shatter more easily and pierce their intestines?

As someone whos vet told them that he would do several emergency home visits due to people giving their dogs bones. If they do NOT fall apart into chalkiness like shes talking, DO NOT do this. He said majority of those dogs never survived. People dont do it as often nowadays but it still happens more than it should unfortunately

This is how i make my broth. Slow cooker, water, tablespoon of white vinegar….. let it cook for 24. If i dont need the broth, then i turn it into a cat and dog food additive by blending the whole thing bones and all until its a smoothie and using it as a pour-over on their pet food.

I just chuck bone and veggie scraps in a pot and cover it with water. Simmer for 4+ hours. Strain.

So how many of your dogs have died from eating cooked poultry bones? I lost one as a kid and it really sucked.
