I wonder if they could've been more common in ancient times when Elder Dragons were more widespread.
Cause its one thing for the Raths to have differently colored subspecies like Pink and Azure that seem to interbreed with regular types, the metal raths feel like they're far different and more powerful.

I always thought the reason it was Silver Rath and Golden Rathian was because the Chromatic Variations' armour are Rath Soul and Rath Heart, as in Silver Soul and Heart Gold (pokémon games), as Golden Rathalos and Silver Rathian would be more inline with alchemy (the metals having specific gendered affinities) but capcom was like "Lets make a pokémon reference" ... Well I don't think this as truth but I wish it was

One odd thing about the Metal Raths is that unlike their Regal and Ornate cousins, they are not only NOT weak to the Dragon element, but completely immune to it. Their metallic hides probably repel that eldritch energy somehow. But this property makes them vulnerable to Water and Thunder - silver easily tarnishes when exposed to moist air, and gold conducts electricity very easily. Indeed, Gold Rathian shelling might even be a high-temperature superconductor, as her vulnerability to Thunder actually increases when she enters her incandescent state.
