Before coming up with an effective strategy, we need to first understand why is the behavior happening. Here are some questions we can ask yourselves:
1. Why is my child doing that? What is(are) the reason(s) behind his behaviors? for example, is it because he wants my attention? Or to get what he wants, or to avoid doing something he dislikes?
2. When does this behavior occur?
3. After this behavior occurs, how are we reacting to the situation?

Once we have the answers to the above-mentioned questions, we can then come up with a reactive plan, which guides us on how we can handle the behavior after it occurs, and a proactive plan, which teaches the child useful replacement skills to address the behavior.
