There’s also a much more obvious answer, which is sanitation. When you stand it splashes everyhwere, even if you don’t necessarily notice it immediately. When you sit it keeps it cleaner

Man here who pees while sitting in the US. I started doing it when I was like 12 because I found that no matter how well you aim you always get splash back on the seat. It was just easier than getting yelled at. Eventually I grew to enjoy the relaxation of it

i got this RIGHT as i'm peeing sitting down. i do it because it reduces splash (i'm tall and splash is unavoidable standing up no matter where i aim) so i don't have to clean the toilet afterwards

I had an argument with a friend in the USA who would stand while urinating whenever he would visit my apartment. I have told him to please sit down because tiny pee droplets can fly all around the apartment, and it drives me nuts that I have to sanitize all of my restroom after he leaves. He just wouldn’t do it, so I told him while I respect him as a friend, this is a strict boundary and I can’t keep inviting him if he refuses to sit down while he pees.
I’m not from the USA. I was born and raised in a different country, so maybe I was a bit harsh on him. But I don’t care. My apartment, my rules lol.

Canadian, and I've been peeing sitting down for basically all my life, for one simple reason: aim (and the related reason of controlling splashback from a urinal with a very strong stream). When it's hanging inside the toilet bowl, it is impossible to miss. When I'm out somewhere, I just wipe down the seat with some toilet paper before sitting.

I had spinal fusion in my neck (C4-C7) and for 3-4 weeks I couldn’t stand I had to sit. Now I just sit because I’m use to sitting. Yes I can stand at times when neck doesn’t hurt but sitting is more comfortable.
