Every time someone treats you like that remember that they are probably awful to everyone, all of the time. It's genuinely not you it's them.
My dad is a type one diabetic. We had to take the bus into the city one day so he could go to the VA, and it's about an hours ride. He had to take his insulin, and this lady started going off about how he's "shooting up" on the bus and in front of his kid.
Dad explained it was insulin, but she said she didnt care what it was he shouldn't be "doing drugs" on public transportation.
Some ancient guy in a Vietnam War hat who apparently volunteered at the vets shelter near the VA was sitting near her on the bus and he. just. snapped. Turned to her and started going off. Don't remember everything they said going back and forth, but I do remember him ending with: "shut the f*** up, you cause a new problem with a new person every day. I'm tired of you ruining my morning coffee with your shrill croaking"

I feel the same way about my schizophrenia I shouldn't have to hide an entire aspect of my personhood just because it makes somebody else uncomfortable. I'm not harming anybody my voices are not violent I just occasionally talk to people who aren't there.

Me and my blind husband were walking through a parking lot towards a grocery store, holding hands when a woman from nowhere approaches us asking my husband where his seeing eye dog was and why he wasn't wearing sunglasses and using a white cane. I rolled my eyes and said he was with his "seeing eye wife" and asked why it mattered if he had a cane/sunglasses since we didn't even know her. Her response: "So that I could have known he was blind quicker!" Wound up telling her to get her own pair of sunglasses if shes so obsessed and walking away.
