I remember having issues like this, and more. I got around it by deleting the YT app from my Nintendo Switch and using my phone instead.

Ninrendo Switch actually does have a software home button on the touch screen, at least as an option, but developers have to opt-in to it. Similarly, the lack of a back button is just thst YouTube didn't put one there!
So yeah, this is YouTube's fault, all they had to do was add a Home and a Back button, but that would be too much work, huh?

I think overall it was made for just joycons, the touchscreen only works on menus just like other handhelds
