The tolls are expensive because if you wont take them you lose your breaks down this mountain. Stay safe. Next time take the toll. The company shouldnt be cheaping out on your safety. 💯🤍

You can go down a mountain too slow 1000's of times but only go down too fast once

Alex, if you are heading west to Midwest-ish direction from southeastern PA, use I-68, around Morgantown, to I-79 North. It will add some extra miles and time, but it’s the fastest alternative to PA-turnpike. Avoid that part of old US-40 to Uniontown PA, GPS’s love telling you to go that way. Getting back to I-70 from Uniontown on PA-43 is also a toll road. If you are headed back northwest from southeastern PA, get to Harrisburg, take US-22, US-322, I-99 North, then I-80 West. It’s annoying, but PA has ridiculously high tolls on I-76.

I’d rather pay the toll. Hope you have a good engine brake. I hate downhill with heavy loads.

Google Maps probably told you to go through there because Google Maps is mainly for cars not semi trucks

Those trucks have amazing engine brakes. Even with 50,000 lbs on you should have no issues on high.

I'm a retired driver after 21 years cross country and o/o. I learned in Rifle Co. 80,000 lbs of sheetrock to Denver. Summer and winter. You did it right, keep using your common sense and pass your knowledge and experiences to younger drivers, That is what driving is All About!! Ms T Ellis

Slow down until your jakes can hold you. With newer trucks, you really shouldn't have to hit the footbrake unless there is an emergency... alternatively, if the mountain is straight enough, send it

That’s why you don’t trust Google maps

Been down this road a lot. RT 31 heading down into Mt. Pleasant. Google maps had you get off at Donegal exit. Even in a car or SUV you pick up speed quick. Definitely works the brakes.

Going from Tahoe down I-80 was fun. Always crazy to smell and see brakes on fire.

Ran the Gorge running into NC a ton of times. Always hit it at 76-78K full Jake and stab braking from 5 over to 5 under, then just wait till I build up speed…..then drop to 5 Under again with my hazards flashing the whole way down…..don’t care what’s going on behind me or who passes me, I’m going down the hill safely and I’m getting to the bottom with my brakes intact and my truck not on fire.

Let the mountain take the truck. Use the jake as recommended downhill. Keep foot off brake unless needed. That’s what I usually do.

I wish companies will stop telling drivers to do this and pay for out of route miles because this could be dangerous for any rookie driver

If my jake cant slow me down, im going too fast. The company would have had to see me about the tolls. What i wont do is hurt me nor anyone else. Good job sir.
