I love that they chose Colton to "play" the role of a naive user who is vulnerable to social engineering attacks...

I never thought I’d live in the generation where we’d need cable condoms

It is important to note that at least on modern Android, this isn't a problem. If you have USB-C, your phone is the "host" device by default, and you would have to manually enable data transfer mode for it to be dangerous. Otherwise no data transfer is permitted.

Just use a cheap usb cable that physically does not have data lines

You know what it also prevents? Fast charging. You need the data line to give and get info to and from the charger to check whether fast charging is compatible

"Use Protection" this phrase can be used in every aspect of life.
Be it virtual, physical or even the most important time of using your dongle.

ALWAYS use protection before you plug in!

Of course, more often than not, a USB charger like that will also have standard outlets, so if you're going to carry around a dongle with you, carrying a power adapter will be useful in far more situations and not require buying something specialized to public charging.

This isn't a problem. There is no documented case of hackers taking control of a USB port and installing malware or anything like that on a phone. The process would be unnecessarily difficult and yield almost no reward. You can still use whatever highspeed data transfer cable you want and you won't need to worry.

You can also get charging cords with no data wires. But those tend to annoyingly only be around when you need to transfer data
