Wellies comes from our English heritage Wellingtons ( Duke of Wellington ) who our capital is named after as well , we just shorten it to Wellies . Gumboots is the boots the Kauri gum diggers used to wear because they worked in swamps . Redlands is a brand that is about a half size gumboot every self respecting country person used to own . They were very good for watching sport on a Saturday at the park and all sorts of other things. Slang is also generational we love to pickup new slang and kids like inventing it
