â¨Yoga for cesarean recovery!
A cesarean birth is major abdominal surgery, so itâs important to give your body time to heal. But when you are ready to unroll your mat, here are some poses to help you reconnect with your body and honor the healing process.
â¨90/90 breathing: Some people express feeling numb or disconnected from their belly after a cesarean birth. Try low, belly breathing. Place your hands at your lower belly and imagine you had a long tube reaching all the way to your hand. Take a relaxed breath, focusing on the space beneath your hands.
â¨Spinal rotation / gentle chest opening twist: A gentle twist can help release tight upper back muscles. Doing this twist laying down can offer great support since you also stretch your chest muscles.
â¨Psoas release: Healing from any surgery often requires less mobility, which can result in tightening of your psoas. Try this passive psoas release. If you feel any pulling on your scar, lower the support under your pelvis.
â¨Cat / Cow: This is one of my âgo toâ poses that offers back and pelvic mobility.
â¨Childâs Pose (closed knees): Your back ribs may feel very restricted post-birth and surgery. Closed knee childâs pose puts the focus on your back expanding (instead of your belly)! Take this pose only if itâs comfortable on your scar.
â¨90/90 legs: This is another one to throw in the psoas bucket!
â¤ď¸Given that 1/3 of our postnatal students birthed their babies via cesarean, we interweave these poses into our ONLINE and IN PERSON POSTnatal yoga classes!
âĄď¸What was your favorite yoga pose post cesarean?
